Waterfront

FEATURES

Four developers took part in this process, using a total of five architect teams. The first of the developers, Trump, sold his interest to a Hong Kong group in 1994, and gave up active involvement in 2001. Trump had agreed to use only "world class" architects, but failed to do so.

The Design of the Park

The early conceptual work on the park was done by Michael Van Valkenburgh and a team of four artists. The grand meadow of the original plan was augmented by a grassy amphitheater to the north. The waterfront was planned as a rich complex of paths and boardwalks weaving between land and water, through marshes and inlets.

These themes were further elaborated by Thomas Balsley and Associates, who took over in late 1992. The result of their work was a much-praised waterfront park.
